New Accord Is Full Of Safety Features

The Detroit Motor Show in January this year saw the launch of the latest generation Honda Accord. The Accord 2013 is the ninth incarnation of the ever popular car and comes packed with a range of safety features.

Honda Accord

For the first time in a Honda car, there’s a lane departure warning (LDW) system which triggers warnings to the driver, but, of course, it’s up to the driver to take corrective action.
There’s also a camera mounted on the windscreen which picks up any dangers or obstacles that the vehicle may be approaching. Forward collision warning images are processed by the computer and it will trigger automatic warnings if necessary.
The new Accord even has a blind spot monitoring system called ‘Lane Watch’. Via a camera mounted at the rear of the car, images are transmitted to the intelligent multi-information display (i-MID) console on the dashboard to show the driver what is happening in their blind spot. This is really great for the moments when you need to change lane or you are trying to get into a difficult parking space.
It will also be safer to use your mobile when driving the new Accord as there is Bluetooth capability and an SMS reading function.
As part of the new generation of Accords, Honda is introducing the latest in its range of eco cars. For the first time, Honda has a plug-in hybrid which will be ready for delivery in the USA at the end of this year. The Accord plug-in hybrid will have three driving modes – electric, gasoline-electric and direct drive. In fact, all of the new Accord models have improved in terms of eco-friendliness, with the Eco Assist function as standard – a visual aid on either side of the speedometer which allows drivers to see how well they are driving on an environmentally-friendly scale.
The Accord is one of Honda’s most popular cars, and its improved eco-friendliness and all its new safety features will surely serve to increase its popularity.

Civic 2012 gadget car king

If you’re a sucker for in-car gadgets, you’re going to love the new honda civic 2012.

The new model from Honda of the car that helped make the company what is is today - is choc-full of the latest telemetry, ‘infotainment’ and other gadgets.

Honda has always enjoyed a reputation for including gadgets in its cars as standard that you didn’t even know you wanted – and hadn’t even heard of – before you realised they were available; then you decide you don’t want to be without them ever again!

The brand new Civic takes all this to a new level. An intelligent Multi-Information Display forms a five-inch colour screen alongside the digital speedometer and provides an absolute battery of information about the journey and the car’s performance.

An auxiliary-input jack and MP3/WMA playback are included as standard in-car components across the Honda Civic 2012 range.

The same goes for the USB port and Bluetooth on all models except the basic DX sedan; whilst an XM radio, and a sat-nav system with bilingual voice recognition are included on EX-L and Si and Hybrid models.

The two-tier instrument panel works well, and is needed for all the gadgetry, whilst the switchgear is ergonomically very well-designed.

An optional extra gadget is the power seat - on the EX-L sedan you can opt for the eight-way power seat to get even more comfortable as you settle down to look at all that digital display information.

It really is a car for the era of smart technology. But further down the line, the car itself from Honda will become the gadget it seems. At the recent Tokyo Motor Show, the company unveiled its tiny “Micro Commuter” car powered by a 3.3kWh lithium-ion battery with a maximum speed of just 37mph, and a range of 37 miles, which is totally connected with smart phone technology; able to download destinations, appointments and other info - display it on the dashboard.

The in-car gadget choice picks

These days, there are loads of in-car gadgets to choose from. A lot of manufacturers like Honda are past masters at building in devices you really need – as opposed to those you don’t – or only want for the fun of it.

But which of these superfluous options are the best / most essential / most fun? Fear not, we’ve done the research for you and here’s our definitive list:

First off, you need a multi-use in vehicle charger with USB port/s and dual 12 Volt sockets. Otherwise, most of the gadgets you have won’t be useable.

One that will is an in-car table for the kids in the back that fit on the back of the front seats. They’re invaluable for families with young children on long journeys for all their activities and, of course, eating.

You will need your adaptor for your in-car DVD player and this is an absolute essential. Any parent that has tried one will tell you; they’ll never do a long journey again with kids without the DVD player!

Next – consider a portable vacuum cleaner. Dirty cars are depressing to be in, whilst getting out the main vacuum cleaner at home is awkward; so you don’t do it that often. With a portable one that stows away in the boot easily – you tend to use it little and often and that’s a far better idea.

A rechargeable LED torch is also useful. If you’ve ever broken down in the dark – you’ll already know this.

An iPod cradle is pretty much a ‘given’ these days. Just get one that’s easy to install and which won’t fall over!

An LED car signal can also be a lot of fun to sends quick and easy messages to other drivers like: “Sorry”! "Thanks" will also prove useful.

And if you want to be environmentally friendly – then sticking an Econav system in green cars like hybrids is something of a ‘belt and braces’ approach as the system takes you on the most fuel-efficient routes.

A personalised motoring gift

It’s often tricky to decide what kind of present to buy a special person in your life. But if someone you know has just changed their car, a new car offers all kinds of possibilities for different gifts to buy.
One thing that relatively few people have is their own personalised number plate. In the days before the internet, this used to be a difficult thing to organise, buhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gift now it’s really simple.
There are all kinds of websites to buy personalised plates from, but you can also buy them direct from the DVLA. You can buy online from a choice of millions of different registrations, or bid for a registration at an actual or online auction.
Additional to the cost of the plate itself is £80 for an assignment fee. You’ll also have to pay separately to get the physical plates made up, once you have purchased your new registration.
If you’re buying the registration as a gift for someone else, your name will be registered as the purchaser name, and the person who the registration is for will be the nominee. The registration can then be put on the purchaser’s or the nominee’s vehicle, so you can keep your gift a secret until you’re ready to reveal it.
So, how do you decide which registration to choose for someone? Try putting their initials into the search box, and the results will throw up the closest plates available. Alternatively, put in their first name, favourite football team, a hobby, or their business. You might even be inspired by whether they drive a hybrid, 4x4 or electric car, and link their personalised plate to that in some way.
There are millions of registrations to choose from – it’s really a question of how much time you want to spend looking online, and how much money you’re willing to spend!

Put a kitchen in your car

There aren’t many electric appliances you can’t plug into your car these days. The old cigarette lighter power point has been put to use in modern cars in ways in which the old smokers of yesteryear would hardly have imagined. How often do you see an executive parked up on the roadside with his laptop plugged in to a USB port whilst talking on his/her mobile phone and maybe even making a quick cup of coffee at the same time?
Meanwhile, a family on a day out has a cool-box plugged in, the kids watching their portable DVD player plug-in, and the parents putting points of interest into the satnav.
In short, family cars are absolutely stuffed with electronics these days – whether as portable plug-ins or as part of the car’s spec.
Some people take things a stage further. On camping trips in 4x4 cars, for example, singles, couples and families can have a virtual kitchen on hand in their favourite vehicle.
Portable microwaves, portable fridges and tea and coffee-makers are just some of the kitchen gadgets that you can stick into the cigarette lighter.
The microwave is a particular boon, though, for motorists tired of balancing sandwiches and crisps on their laps in the layby. It makes good, hot food available in interesting varieties that can be safely and hygienically stored in the car for months or even years without losing freshness. It’s also good for emergencies. When the snow and ice comes and the AA reminds you to take a hot flask and a blanket – just take the latter and don’t worry about the hot drinks and food if you have an in-car microwave.
But do make sure your battery is up to the task!

An eco-gadget for your car

If you’re looking for the ultimate eco-friendly gadget for your car, you might want to buy a hybrid conversion kit. Hybrids are great on fuel economy and produce lower emissions, so by converting your car to a hybrid you’ll be saving money and making a commitment to protect the environment. The motor is charged through a process called regenerative braking – as the driver brakes, excess energy is stored in the motor’s battery.
